Available Versions of Web-to-Print Software on the Market
SaaS or Enterprise, Private Portal or B2C, Self-Hosted versus Third-Party Hosting
Web-To-Print Software, like almost all software, is most commonly available in 2 main flavors; Saas (Software as a Service) or Enterprise.
Web-To-Print as a Service
The SaaS model has caught the attention of many firms, in this industry especially, that realize that they need comprehensive software, but are not sure how to start or utilize. Also, the SaaS model is an approach where the client does not own or have any rights to the software after their term is expired.
Enterprise Web-To-Print
The Enterprise approach to software is completely different. With this approach, the firm that buys the software, owns the code, the rights and has the ability to modify or change the solution at their discretion.
How is Web-To-Print software provided?
The first question to ask yourself is: what type of technical resources do I have available? Answering this question can help you to determine if hosted internally or outsouced is for you.
Internally Hosted: If you have some technical talent on staff and have reliable infrastructure and capability to monitor servers, having your web-to-print solution is probably the right path for you. Many firms and organizations already have infrastructure in place for other business needs such as accounting, file servers, contact management ect. Thus, adding some additional hardware probably won't cost prohibited and ensures that all data and artwork reside within your building.
Outsourced: Many professionaly hosting providers can easily provide you with dedicated server and hosting services at relatively low cost. This is definitely the route to choose if you have a small organization and/or don't have the technical talent or skills in-house to troubleshoot, monitor or secure your solution.
